This shot was one of those moments where everything just came together perfectly. As I stood there, watching the sun dip below the horizon, Lisbon unfolded beneath me like a sea of warm, glowing lights. The city felt alive, yet there was a certain calm in the air, a peacefulness that comes right after sunset when the day’s energy begins to slow down. The sky ignited in shades of fiery orange and gold, casting a soft, amber glow over the rooftops, stretching all the way to the 25 de Abril Bridge in the distance. I knew this was going to be a special moment to capture.

There’s something magical about twilight in Lisbon. As the last remnants of daylight fade, the city transforms. The lights from the streets and buildings flicker on, creating a web of orange and yellow that pulses with life. In the distance, I could see the illuminated bridge spanning the Tagus River, its lights reflecting on the water, and the towering Cristo Rei statue standing as a silent guardian over the city. The contrast between the warm, glowing city below and the deep, burning sky above was breathtaking—it felt like two worlds colliding, night and day meeting for just a brief moment.

What I love about this image is the sense of depth it captures. The layered rooftops lead your eye deep into the heart of the city, through the winding streets and up towards the hills in the background. Each building, each street, is bathed in a different shade of light, telling a story of the people living their lives below. From this vantage point, you get a sense of Lisbon’s incredible mix of history and modernity—centuries-old buildings sitting side by side with sleek, newer structures, all glowing under the same sunset.

The long exposure helped to soften the movement below, smoothing out the cars and the activity, creating a sense of calm amid the city’s constant pulse. The winding streaks of headlights and taillights add a subtle motion to the image, reminding you that while the scene is peaceful, the city itself never stops. It’s always moving, always alive, even as the day comes to an end. The warm glow of the lights, contrasted with the fiery sky, captures Lisbon in one of its most beautiful transitions—where the bustling city slowly quiets as the night takes over.

This image, to me, is about more than just capturing a sunset. It’s about capturing a feeling, a moment in time where the city feels both eternal and fleeting. The warmth, the energy, the contrast between the city lights and the natural beauty of the sunset—it all comes together in this one frame.
