Grand Etang Forest, Grenada
My journey through Grenada brought me to many hidden gems, but discovering this waterfall in the Grand Etang Forest Reserve was particularly special.
I found this spot thanks to some friendly locals who told me about a beautiful cascading waterfall tucked away in the forest. They mentioned that the hike was moderately hard, taking about an hour due to the slippery terrain. With their advice in mind, I set off in my rental car, navigating the island’s sketchy roads, which added an extra layer of adventure to the trip.
The drive itself was an experience, with winding, narrow roads that demanded full attention. Yet, the incredible beauty of the entire island made every twist and turn worth it. Grenada’s lush landscapes and vibrant scenery are truly mesmerizing, and even the journey to the waterfall was filled with stunning views.
The hike was indeed challenging, especially with all my gear. Recent rains had turned the trail into a muddy, slippery path. Each step was a careful negotiation with the earth beneath, the mud clinging to my boots and slowing my progress. The air was thick with humidity, and the symphony of the forest accompanied me, making the effort feel worthwhile. The vibrant greenery and occasional glimpses of wildlife were captivating, drawing me further into the heart of the forest.
When I finally reached the waterfall, the sight was breathtaking. The water cascaded gracefully into a serene pool, then tumbled down again to create the lower falls, splashing energetically into the larger pool below. The sound of rushing water was both powerful and soothing, a reminder of nature’s raw beauty.
Spending a few weeks on the island allowed me to find these hidden spots and capture their essence through my lens. Grenada’s less touristy areas revealed a side of the island many visitors never see, each location telling its own unique story. The waterfall in Grand Etang Forest Reserve was a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility, and I felt fortunate to experience and photograph it.
