While journeying along Highway 1 on a photo trip, en route from California to Oregon, an unexpected discovery captured my attention. A casual walk with my dog Rylee unveiled a distant glimpse of what appeared to be a cave nestled within the embrace of rugged cliffs by the beach. Driven by curiosity and the prospect of uncovering a unique landscape, I quickly fetched my gear and navigated down a steep, narrow cliff towards the beach.

Choosing to camp there for a few days, my aim was to capture the cave in its most exquisite light, waiting for the perfect interplay of tides and sunlight. It was a setting that demanded patience and an attentive eye to nature’s subtle cues.

The cave revealed itself to be a remarkable natural aperture. A specific moment each day, when the sunlight embraced the cave just right, transformed the ordinary stones into a breathtaking canvas of emerald hues. This ethereal light, combined with the cave’s natural architecture, created a scene of awe-inspiring beauty, making the wait and preparation all worth it.

Naming this image "Aperture" felt like a homage to nature’s own way of manipulating light to create a spectacle of visual art. The cave became more than just a physical location; it was a frame through which the beauty of natural light and textures were celebrated in a vivid display of colors and shapes. It symbolizes the unexpected and splendid visuals that nature curates, waiting to be discovered and appreciated by those who seek them.
