Returning from a week of shooting in Yosemite, I stumbled upon this unique beach in Pacifica, California. Its rugged beauty, with imposing cliffs and a rocky shoreline, immediately captured my interest. The initial day I was there, the setting sun cast a warm, orange glow on the cliffs, but my gear was unfortunately too far away, and the moment slipped through my fingers.

Determined to capture this remarkable sunset, I decided to stay a few more nights, waiting for the right conditions. The landscape was challenging, and getting to the right spot required a strenuous hike. On the day this image was captured, the sky didn’t seem promising at first, and I had left my gear in the truck. However, as the sun began to set, the sky transformed, and colors started to unveil their magic.

Racing against time, I rushed back to the truck, grabbed my equipment, and hurried to my chosen spot. The cliffs were bathed in a vibrant orange hue, and the sky began to blush pink as the sun descended. Using a ND filter for a long exposure shot, I managed to capture the water’s silky, smooth texture against the rugged rocks.

As the tide rushed in, threatening to engulf my equipment, I quickly took the shots, ensuring that the tripod was steady against the onslaught of the ocean waves. The resulting image is one of my favorites from California, encapsulating the raw, unpredictable beauty of Pacifica’s coastline and the gratifying result of patience and perseverance in the face of challenges.
